In some cases, retailers act as middlemen, taking orders from end users and buying from wholesalers on an as-needed basis; this business strategy results in slightly higher product costs, but minimizes the risk associated with buying products that the retailer can't sell.

Even better, vending allows merchants to sell almost anything, including candy, personal items, electronics and even clothing.

Cleaning service businesses, according to the entrepreneurial website Home Biz Tools, allows business owners to maximize profits while minimizing start-up costs. With little more than some quality cleaning tools, like vacuum cleaners and mops, a few bottles of cleaning solution and a bit of networking, new business owners can start generating profits by cleaning homes and businesses. Cleaning service owners capitalize on their clients' harried lifestyles by handling time-consuming janitorial chores. Since the business requires very minimal product investment, the monthly or per-visit cleaning fees translate into a considerable percentage of profit.
Instructor or Consultant
In a 2010 article describing the top 25 home-based and small businesses, Dun & Bradstreet listed a number of opportunities that allowed business owners to sell their knowledge for a profit. A business owner with specialized knowledge in areas like yoga or personal fitness can launch a venture that instructs clients on proper form, teaching essential components of yoga or exercise. Entrepreneurs with business credentials can coach other entrepreneurs on starting up or improving a business, and some with more esoteric skill sets become consultants who charge by the hour for qualified advice.
