Describe your strengths and how they have made you successful in your career?


Employers ask this interview question to give you an opportunity to describe specific job-related strengths that would be most beneficial in the open position. You would want to give detailed descriptions and examples of unique situations that greatly impacted or exceeded expectations in a previous position. This is an interview question that gives you an opportunity to demonstrate the key skills that are required for the current job position.


What would you say is your greatest weakness and how have you overcome it?


What you site as a weakness does not have to be a work related issue. It could be a personal challenge, such as maintaining a healthy weight. This question is relevant because it allows the employer to see how well you are able to overcome challenges or cope with difficult situations.


Describe a conflict with a supervisor/co-worker and how you resolved or improved the situation?


This interview questions is relevant because it shows the employer your capacity to handle and resolve conflict. It allows you to describe your ability to work with others under sometimes difficult or stressful circumstances. You can site an example explaining how resolving a conflict with a supervisor/co-worker resulted in a more positive work environment.


The goal is to persuade the employer that the interviewee has the skills, background, and ability to do the job and can comfortably fit into his/her organization. The interview outcome can be strongly influenced by realizing an interview is not an objective process in which the employer offers the job to the best candidate based on merit alone. Instead, it is a highly subjective encounter in which the interviewer offers the job to the qualified person whom he/she likes best.
