Go back to school or if you are still in school, change majors. Moreover, educational credentials carry a certain weight and when combined with experience is a surefire way to land a good job.

Sign up for an internship with a local sales and marketing company. Internships not only help you to make industry contacts, but they provide you with invaluable work experience that acts as a resume builder. Be flexible and offer to take on any job they are willing to give you -- big or small. Ask plenty of questions and do everything you can to soak in your learning experience.

Ask your company to assist you in your career change. The Sales Marketing Management website says that your company may see you as an asset in your efforts to grow and move into other areas. After all, the more you know about a particular company and the more areas in which you can excel, the more valuable -- and effective -- an employee you are to them. Talk with your human resources representative to see what kind of training your company can provide to assist you in your new career path.

Not only would you be doing something good for the community, but chances are, your charity of choice needs all the help it can get in selling sponsorships and courting donors and marketing itself and its services. Plus, this is sales and marketing experience you can really feel good about.

Start your own business. This is a good option for someone who either doesn't have the support of their factory or wants to try it on their own. Put your sales skills to the test and sell your own products or services. Not only will you gain experience, but doing it on your own puts the pressure on you to learn -- and master -- your skills quickly.
